36 : School doctor concern
The two didn't continue their conversation. Just then, the bell rang, signaling the end of the break. Chen Zhoumu, looking at the students listening to the lesson, couldn't resist casually pulling a piece of scrap paper from his desk and handing it over
. Song Shi glanced at
the paper. What he saw made him raise an eyebrow. He had thought the other hadn't heard him when they were at the back door. He took the paper, wrote "No," and handed it back.
Chen Zhoumu breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing the reply. The handwriting was neat and sharp.
Chen Zhoumu suddenly remembered the notes Song Shi had given him before; the handwriting was also very beautiful, just like him.
He carefully folded the thin piece of paper and put it back in his desk.
For the rest of the lesson, the other didn't do anything. Perhaps due to his cold, Chen Zhoumu was a little listless. Song Shi, while listening to the lesson, also heard the other cough a couple of times.
Finally, class ended. Song Shi stood up, and the person who had been slumped down, eyes closed, grabbed his clothes.
The voice was muffled: "Where to?"
Song Shi found it somewhat amusing: "The toilet."
After leaving the classroom, Song Shi didn't head straight for the toilet at the end of the corridor, but instead turned and walked towards the stairwell.
He wasn't actually going to the toilet; the school clinic was on the far left of the first floor, and he headed towards it.
Before he even got close, a figure ran out, head down, not seeing Song Shi, and bumped into his shoulder.
It was a boy, considerably shorter than Song Shi. The things he was carrying scattered on the floor, and then he stammered an apology.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he said, his voice trembling with tears.
"It's okay."
Song Shi bent down to help the boy pick up the things, only to realize they were photos. He didn't have a penchant for prying into other people's privacy, and was about to hand the photos back to the boy.
The man snatched the item from Song Shi's hand in alarm, apologized again, and hurriedly brushed past him.
Song Shi watched the man's retreating figure without giving it a second thought, put his hand back in his pocket, and headed towards the school clinic.
The clinic wasn't very large; two beds were placed side-by-side in the center, and a person in a white coat was organizing medicines with their back to the door.
"Teacher," Song Shi greeted politely.
The person turned around at the sound of his voice. The school doctor had changed; he remembered it being a female doctor last time, but now it was a male doctor. He
looked very young, with perfectly proportioned chestnut-brown hair and a tall stature.
Upon seeing Song Shi, the man smiled kindly and adjusted his glasses. "Student, is there something you need?"
Song Shi explained Chen Zhoumu's condition; he only needed some cold medicine.
The teacher nodded, then turned and went inside, placing a medicine box on the table in front of Song Shi. He looked at Song Shi's face.
Then, taking a piece of paper from the drawer, he said gently, "Student, you need to fill out some information to get medicine from the infirmary."
Song Shi nodded, then picked up a pen from the table and began filling out the information. He glanced at the information and found nothing unusual.
After finishing, he handed the paper over, and his eyes met those of the school doctor, who was still smiling at Song Shi.
Song Shi smiled as he took the paper, nodded, and said, "Student Song, if you have any questions, you can always come to the school clinic to ask me. The teacher will be happy to help every student."
Song Shi looked up at him, then nodded, picked up the medicine box from the table, and left the school clinic.
Chen Zhoumu was catching up on sleep at his desk when He Xi anxiously woke him up. Seeing that the man was about to get angry, He Xi didn't care about his mood and handed him his phone. The
man, who had been sleeping soundly, opened his eyes and was about to speak when he was stopped by a message on his phone. It was a photo.
The person in the photo was standing at the entrance of the school cafeteria, wearing a white coat, smiling at the girl who was asking for his contact information.
His glasses sat neatly on his face.
Looking up at the title, "[The new school doctor is so handsome!!]"
[Classmate 1:] I know him! I also think he's so handsome and so gentle; he's totally my type.
[Classmate 2:] Yeah, yeah! I just went to the school clinic yesterday, and this doctor's tone was so nice and polite.
[Classmate 3:] He's not exactly a new teacher; he worked at No. 1 High School for a while before, but he went to recuperate because of that incident.
[Classmate 3:] And I heard he's only a few years older than us, a top student from A University! An older man/younger woman type!
[Classmate 4:] Falling for an older man is my destiny.

The post's popularity soared. Chen Zhoumu's pent-up anger from being woken up was completely suppressed; his upturned, almond-shaped eyes coldly stared at the person on the screen.
He Xi pursed his lips and looked at the picture: "Brother Mu, what should we do?"
Chen Zhoumu sneered: "He left No. 1 High School last time, and this time it'll be doubled."
"How dare No. 1 High School accept such scum? They really want to die."
"The new vice principal is his uncle." Zhang Jingxiao told the people who read the post every day that she had seen this post early in the morning. She looked at the person in the picture with disgust.
"How do you know?"
Zhang Jingxiao looked at He Xi speechlessly. Then the person being looked at remembered: "I forgot, the principal is your mother."
"Tsk, stepmother." Zhang Jingxiao frowned and corrected.
"But can you ask your stepmother to kick him out?"
"Damn it, He Xi, are you looking for a beating this morning? I already said she's my stepmother! How good can my relationship with her be?" Zhang Jingxiao punched He Xi hard on the head.
"Ouch, that was a hard punch." The person who was hit covered his head.
"He got off easy." Chen Zhoumu had already looked away from his phone, leaning back in his chair and constantly rubbing the hem of his school uniform in his arms.
The school uniform he'd been sleeping in belonged to Song Shi. Thinking of him, he realized Song Shi seemed to have been gone quite a while.
His eyes sharpened, and just as he was about to go out to look for him, Song Shi appeared at the back door. He breathed a sigh of relief.
Before he could even finish his sigh, he saw what Song Shi was carrying. He watched as Song Shi placed the item on his desk.
"Awake?" Song Shi said, pulling a chair out from under the desk and sitting down.
The two noisy people in front of him stopped what they were doing when they saw what he brought back, and just stared at them.
Song Shi felt a little uncomfortable with the sudden silence, then looked at them: "What are you doing?"
Chen Zhoumu frowned and picked up the item on the desk. It was indeed a medicine box from the infirmary. He turned to ask, "You went to the infirmary?"
The person sitting next to him nodded casually. Chen Zhoumu lowered his head, concealing his emotions, and then smiled, saying, "Is Song concerned about me?"
Looking at the person who had returned to normal, he replied, "Afraid you'll infect me."
"Okay." The other person put the medicine in the table.
The person in the infirmary hummed a song as he carefully examined the documents on the table, then took out a red pen and wrote an "S" in the upper left corner of a piece of paper.
In a good mood, he neatly arranged the papers in a drawer. There was a stack of such documents inside, divided into several sections, with photos pasted on top.
The papers were covered with photos of various sizes, and some had crosses marked in the name section.
He then placed the newly received paper on top of the smallest stack, closed the drawer, and locked it with his key.
His phone on the table rang. He picked it up and saw the name displayed: Jiang Zai.
After evening self-study, the two walked towards the dormitory. Today was Monday, and each class was assigned to clean. It just so happened that it was Song Shi's group's turn to clean today.
Chen Zhoumu stood beside Song Shi, carrying water and helping to mop the floor. The classroom wasn't too dirty; a quick sweep and mop were enough.
Almost twenty minutes passed after they finished cleaning. One by one, the students on duty left, until only the two of them remained.
Chen Zhoumu turned off the last light, and the two walked out of the classroom. Fortunately, the lights in the hallway outside were still on.
"Song, would you like to hear some stories about the old No. 1 High School?" Chen Zhoumu asked, smiling at the person beside him.
"What story?"
"A suspenseful horror story, actually based on something that happened. A senior told me about it."
Song Shi raised an eyebrow. "Tell me about it." "
Ahem, they said that in this teaching building, the one we're walking in now, no one goes to the girls' restroom on the first floor."
"Why?"
"They said that a long time ago, a girl gave birth in the girls' dormitory on the first floor, but fearing discovery, she dismembered the baby and flushed it down the toilet."
"Also, the girl's hands were stained bright red with blood, and she couldn't wipe it off. She went insane and dropped out of school."
"But ever since then, every time someone goes to the restroom
, they hear the sound of a baby." Only Chen Zhoumu's voice echoed in the corridor. All the classrooms and offices in the entire teaching building had their lights off.
The corridor they were walking through also began to go dark one by one. Chen Zhoumu paused for a second while speaking, and then the motion-sensor lights in the corridor went out.
The two of them were now walking in the corridor on the first floor, the wind whistling through the ductwork.
The two were now walking in the middle of the corridor, just one stairwell away from the women's restroom Chen Zhoumu had mentioned.
Song Shi felt the person next to him shiver slightly from the wind, then asked expressionlessly, "Why aren't you saying anything?"
"Wait, listen."
Song Shi didn't speak again, but followed the other's gaze and listened. However, the previously quiet corridor suddenly became noisy. It was
particularly noticeable in the empty and quiet place.
The initially faint sound gradually grew louder, and only then did the two realize what it was.
It was the sound of a baby crying. Song Shi's hand was gripped tightly, and he turned his head to look, only to see Chen Zhoumu staring at the empty, dark restroom.
The sound grew louder and louder, as if it were right next to their ears.
A sliver of light flashed beside them, and out of the corner of Song Shi's eye, he saw a hand appear on Chen Zhoumu's shoulder.
Pale and slender, with red nail polish.
